So … Who Broke It?

You don’t need me to tell you that media is broken. And yet you’re here — looking for answers on who exactly is breaking it, what they’re motivated by, how they’re connected, and whether the damage is irreparable.

We can start here: political media is never going back to the way it was, no matter how committed the legacy institutions are to pretending it will. This isn’t about being first to identify the “Joe Rogan of the Left” or whatever fictional, lab-made creator our political parties are in the race to find.

Who Broke It is made to catalogue, connect, and contextualize these new titans of industry who came into focus after the 2024 election, and have only become clearer since then. I’m here to consume hours of content so far to the right and left sides of the spectrum you’re going to be mind-blown to find out it exists. I’m here to point out the pieces that will inevitably cascade into our national discourse before they reach the general public.

This feels like the appropriate time to point out a key feature you’ll see. The gap between important and engaging is massive in traditional journalism and old school media. My entire MO is finding a way to unite those two tenets in this project. Every day. Even the dark ones.

Much of my focus outside of that pursuit is going to be on community. Despite frequent and obvious real-life implications of policy, politics itself offers up as much group chat fodder as your fantasy football league or your favorite franchise of Real Housewives. I know you don’t believe me, but I also know I’m gonna prove it to you.
