Insults hurled at Stephen Miller are redefining the English language
People are combining words that have never been combined before
Everybody needs to put their hands up and back away from the thesaurus.
I can’t tell if Peter Mark Roget would be delighted or disturbed to see what our species has done with his creation. In his wildest Victorian-era dreams, could he have predicted that political parties, officials, and their partners would be tearing through his tool to create original ways of humiliating each other in public?
My contemporary brain that takes this chaos in for a living can barely compute what I’ve just witnessed. I’m considering pouring bleach in my eyes to unsee what I’ve seen, but that would do little to dissolve the images lingering in my head. I’m afraid my only option is to unload them onto you.
If it’s not clear by now: This post contains insults that make Wild ‘n Out look like Mr. Rogers. Pearl-clutchers and puritans beware.
This story starts how all good ones do: with a post from the DNC Grassroots Team gone awry. “The Democrats” account shared a photo of James Talarico along with the caption, “Fired up. Ready to go.” The Obamaisms of yore will never know peace. Thousands of people took time out of their busy days to comment on how gay he is for posing with his hands in his pockets.
But wait, it’s Miller Time. Stephen reposted the DNC with added congratulations to the Dems for “nominating their first transgender senate candidate.” The 10 million views on the post could be one of two things: It is a hilarious joke that made everybody laugh (nay), or he was brutally ratioed (yay).1 Well …
I, personally, gasped. And I’m guessing the more than 35M people who saw this reply also charted somewhere on the reaction spectrum from euphoric elation to incandescent rage. Headquarters (Kamala’s digital arm) reposted it. The DNC’s own Matt Rein dedicated a Reel to it — 900k views, 30k likes. Liberals and leftists agree: it’s a banger, team is based, they cooked.
MAGA on the other hand? So pissed. Benny Johnson, Riley Gaines, The Daily Wire, I could go on — all calling out Dems for claiming to be the party of “tolerance” and “love,” while cheering on what they view as bullying.
Like clockwork, creators on the left sniped right back, calling out the right’s hypocrisy in suddenly being sensitive to the online dunk culture they perpetuate. Harry Sisson, Prem Thakker, ettingermentum, and more shove an age-old label back on their digital foes: “cant believe im saying this but you guys are actually snowflakes.”
You think the drama ends there? You have no idea what fresh nickname hell awaits Stephen Miller — thanks to the involvement of his own wife — below.
“NOSFERATU’S STUNTED BROTHER” AND OTHER NOVEL NAMES —
“Ugly” isn’t usually a designation up for debate when Stephen Miller faces the People’s Court of Yassopotamia. People defending him call him kind (hm) and smart (ok), while leaving out any defense of his looks. Perhaps that’s a job best left to his wife, but it’s not clear she wants the gig. Katie chose to run an offensive play instead.
Paulina, we’ll get to in a moment. Katie found little in the way of support for her post going after the DNC employee who claimed responsibility for the attack on her “ugly fuck” husband. Instead I’m scrolling through f i f t e e n t h o u s a n d comments, utterly agog at the level of linguistic nastiness on display. I did not realize innovation had gone this far. Again, avert your eyes if the obscene does not interest you.
